George Kaplan, M.D.

Dr. Kaplan received his medical degree from Northwestern University, Chicago, IL, in 1959. He completed his rotating medical internship at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, LA, from 1959 to 1960. From 1960 to 1963, Dr. Kaplan served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant in the Medical Corps. He began his extensive urological training in 1963, when he began his urological residency at the VA Research Hospital, affiliated with Northwestern University, Chicago, IL. He completed several other urological residencies at Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital and Children's Memorial Hospital, both of Chicago, IL. In addition to his urological residencies, Dr. Kaplan completed a general surgery residency at Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital and received a fellowship from the Northwestern University Department of Urology. His post graduate training in the field of urology and sub specialty of pediatric urology spanned from 1963 to 1968.

Dr. Kaplan is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He has held numerous professional and academic positions. He is currently Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Urology and a professor of Urology and Pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego.

Dr. Kaplan is a member numerous professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, the American Urological Association, and the Society for Pediatric Urology. Dr. Kaplan was selected to be in Who's Who in Medicine and Health Care, and The Best Doctors in America. He is currently the chairman for the Pediatric Health Council of the American Foundation for Urologic Diseases.

Dr. Kaplan was the first urologist on the west coast to limit his practice to pediatric urology. He is the author of one textbook and over 200 articles and book chapters dealing with pediatric urology. He has been an invited lecturer on many occasions both in this country and abroad. He has been president of the Society for Pediatric Urology and Chairman of the Section on Urology of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a consultant at the United States Naval Hospital and is the Director of a Pediatric Urology Fellowship approved by the ACGME. His major interest is reconstructive surgery of the genito-urinary tract.
